tandberg_logo[[Metcalfe's Law]] was all about the potential value of networks being proportion to the square of the number of nodes on the network. In telepresence implementations however, interoperability while maintaining that immersive experience was only possible between brands of the same endpoints. So a Polycom RPX could only talk to another Polycom system (RPX or HDX) and a TANDBERG T3 could only talk to other TANDBERG systems and an HP system could only talk to another HP system and a Cisco system could only talk to another Cisco system.

To be clear, we're not commenting on interoperability with degraded experience. We're talking about the immersive context and multi-screen experience that has been particularly complex to coordinate in a multi-brand setting. A software upgrade of the TANDBERG Telepresence Server allows customers with a mix of T3 and RPX systems to have immersive experiences at each end of the communication, or allows a customer with T3 to have an immersive experience with a customer who uses an RPX. This milestone adds Polycom RPX to the HP HALO interoperability already achieved.

This announcement comes on the heels of two other recent achievements by TANDBERG: 1080p at 60 frames per second demonstrated at VoiceCon (TANDBERG employee in a room in the hotel had a roulette wheel spinning was shown on a 53" monitor on the show floor); and a well disciplined result for the first quarter showing modest growth over Q1 of 2008.
