In our report, The Perfect Storm: Why Video Conferencing Will Dominate Business Communications, we discussed several important reasons why video conferencing will finally grow outside the niche it exists today in the pantheon of business communications. Here's one more reason.

The price point for high quality HD equipment is falling.

Back in October 2007 LifeSize introduced the Express which retails for $5,999 MSRP (dealers may sell for less). That's the codec, camera and cables. HD monitor is sold separately. This approach is suitable for both executive desktop deployments and workgroup conference rooms.

TANDBERG Centric 1700 MXP lists for $7999 while the Polycom HDX 4000 retails for $7999. Both of these include the monitor and don't offer the camera control and optical performance of the LifeSize Express camera.

So, the high definition video conferencing technology is becoming affordable for desktops and workgroups.
